FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern men and women's swimming teams returned to Sunshine State Conference competition on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Florida Southern Moccasins in a dual at the NSU Aquatic Center. While the women topped their competition by a landslide, it came down to the wire for the men, topping their side of the competition by just two points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- NSU's A-team comprised of Suzanne Afchain, Kaylee Gassen, Elizabeth Zubero and Jenna Johns earned the first win of the day for the Sharks in the 200 medley relay in 1:45.16.
- The men's 200 medley A-squad (Martin Hemminghyth, Cory Klemm, Magnus Poulsen and Jonathon Yanello) completed the event sweep, taking first with their time of 1:33.83.
- In the final event of the day, the women's 400 freestyle A-team made up of Johns, Caroline Oster, Emma Sundstedt and Gassen, grabbed first in 3:33.06, four seconds faster than the second place finishers, NSU's B-team (Amilia Nusbaum, Hannah Treischmann, Laurel Fink and Alyssa Roehr).
TOP INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS:
- Bernardo Abascal earned the first individual win for the Sharks in the 1,000 freestyle, coming in first in 9:37.50.
- In the women's 200 freestyle, Sundstedt claimed first place in 1:54.12. The sophomore also took first in the 500 freestyle with an NCAA B-cut time of 5:04.86.
- Afchain topped the competition in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.28. She also won in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.83.
- Gassen was first in the women's 100 breaststroke in 1:05.50, while Klemm also won the event on the men's side in 58.23.
- Oster and Matteo Masiero swept FSC in the 200 butterfly, posting times of 2:06.78 and 1:52.48, respectively, for the wins. Oster also went on to win the 100 free in 53.21.
- Johns and Yanello did the same thing in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 23.73 and 21.00, respectively. Johns' time of 23.73 was good enough for an NCAA B-cut standard.
- Johns also won in the 100 butterfly in 56.36, just .05 seconds short of her second B-cut time.
- Poulsen took the win in the both men's 100 free (46.38) and the 100 butterfly (49.53).
- Zubero grabbed an individual win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.93.
